Destiny and career | Part 1
- Are some people just meant for their job?
There are some jobs that seem like you simply needed to be born for them - like you were always supposed to go down that road. That obviously puts a lot of pressure on whoever believes in this. Because way too often people find themselves unhappy with their occupation at a time in life that often seems “too late” to change anything anymore.
But there are some occupations, some people in this world, who simply seem like they were meant to be where they are now. I am sure this question arises at least then when the conversation in stirred in the religious area. Now, I am not religious and have never been, therefore I will try to be really careful with what I say, but people like the Pope for example or the Dalai Lama, probably provoke skepticism beyond many, since they are said to simply be “the one”. Let’s look at their birthchart and see if we are able to spot patterns in their charts and whether or not we would have been able to say the same thing about them at the time of their birth.
First, let’s look at the current Pope. Being the head of the most popular religion on earth is a huge responsibility – and I’m sure also honor – and even though the Pope gets voted by others for their respective position and are not said to simply “be born” as a Pope, it is still interesting to observe and see if we are able to spot this careerpath also from an astrological standpoint. After all, it takes a lot of belief, devotion and dedication to fully commit to this lifestyle and even consider such a profession – or may it be a calling – therefore I was not surprised when I looked at these charts.
It is important to note that I will not be looking at their whole chart, but simply try to pay attention to possible signs in their birthchart that might have hinted to their path in life from early on as well as similarities between the three charts I have selected. I will share little tips that might also make it easier for you to understand, follow and maybe even recognize again in other charts by yourself. Please keep in mind that every chart is unique and should always be interpreted as a whole instead of isolated placements to fully understand and dive deeper into the soul of the person we have in front of us.
Similar to Diana’s chart we have a Moon and a Venus in the 7. House, so others admire and like him a lot. He is popular amongst most people, since his compassion and interest in the needs of others makes him seem really sympathetic, as well as the the Cancer Ascendent that gifts him a kind and caring aura.
Interesting here is the planet cluster in the 6th house, the house of work. He seems to be someone who takes his responsibilities serious and won’t shy away even from unpleasant work. Here we can notice the sun in conjunction with the North Node in Sagittarius. This is a pattern that will keep reoccurring throughout this article. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, a planet that also rules Pisces. They both represent optimism and originally also religion and hope. Having Jupiter in a significant position is therefore not uncommon for people who have a strong believes, a great sense for justice and the bigger good. In this chart it falls into the 6th house, the house of our job and our everyday life. Therefore, it does not surprise me that his occupation was tightly linked to his believes and ultimately his religion, which seemingly has always played a big role in his life.
For him I would have definitely expected a public career, something where it is important to be in close contact with others and lend them comfort, someone to look up to. He was “destined” (see the north node) to fully flourish in his career and what he was doing. I think it is especially interesting because this is a cluster in the 6th house and not the 10th, which I usually mention as the house of career. The important difference is that, like I have already touched on before, the 6th house is about duties and chores, doing something because we simply feel the need to, it is omnipresent in our lives, other than the 10th house, which is much more the house of the public, being seen and admired. Doing something for fame and an occupation only, rather than a “calling” one is ready to commit to for a lifetime. I assume that his path led from being a very private person to being true to himself and turning his occupation into something that not only helped and enriched himself, but also others (this is what we can tell by looking at his North Node).
If you paid close attention to what I had to say about the first chart, a smile might creep onto your lips when first looking at this next horoscope.
This is the chart of the Pope prior to Francis and here the pattern already starts to become really obvious. Remember how I talked about Pisces, Sagittarius and Jupiter? Well, in this chart it is pretty hard to miss them. Jupiter in its domicile Pisces in close conjunction with the Ascendant and the MC in Sagittarius on top of it. Therefore, his belief was not only tightly tied to his personality (AC) but also his career. He probably wanted to shout it from the rooftops and was a proud ambassador of a topic that was close to his heart.
Here we can once again observe a Moon in the 7th house. Showing to deeply care about the issues and needs of others, as well as giving the strong impression of being very likable and trustworthy to others in order to be voted as the Pope, as well as being followed by so many people all over the world, is a necessity.
To quickly mention the sensitive points of Fortune and Spirit on the sidelines, I wanted to note, that in the first chart as well as in this one, the Spirit-Point (or in the first example its dispositor) falls into the 6th house, once again the house of service. So the way for them to gain confidence and happiness through feeling in tune with themselves and their destiny was to serve (a term I guess is commonly used in Christianity, which is why I can only assume that both of them would have strongly agreed with this position).
For our last example I chose the Dalai Lama, someone who is rather said to simply be born into his role more than voted. Although for some people the comparison to the last two charts might seem odd, to me their fields of knowledge and occupation seem very similar. Just because two people don’t believe in the same things, if their belief is strong, they will show similar traits in their chart. A chart can never predict what its owner might choose, what path in life, which decision they will make, it only sows the seed of something that could be, of a preference, a bias in energy, feelings and thoughts.
Therefore, we might not be surprised to once again stumble upon similar patterns as in the charts I have already mentioned: An MC in Pisces, the start of the 6th house in Sagittarius and this time even a Water Trine.
In the first chart we had a Pluto in the 1st house and in case two a sun in the 1st house, now we have both. It might be an indicator for a very influental and charismatic person, or maybe someone who also is able to even handle such a big responility (we also remember seeing this in King Charles’ chart). The Sun definitely symbolizes a big personality, someone who is eager to shine and be seen. This can help with being true to oneself and being authentic, but in the wrong hands, these people can become really full of themselves. The Pluto symbolizes intensity, it can also indicate the potential of big personal change and transformation.
Another similarity for all these charts is the Saturn, which is placed pretty high in the chart for all of them. Although it does not fall into the 10th house, a Saturn in a high - and in some of these cases even elevated position - can definitely indicate the many responsibilities that they have to face and take on in their life. It is the planet of restriction and tests, therefore a life with limited resources and ready to abstain from certain things seems quite fitting. They all share the quality of self-control and selflessness.
Also, to be noticed is that all of these charts have a Water Ascendant and therefore an Earth DC, which could refer to their almost “medium”-like nature. Water Ascendants are quick to catch up on energies in the room or in a crowd, they are sensitive and don’t find it too hard being modest (also in combination with the Earth Descendant, which can symbolize the seriousness and devotion in their relationships (with their God?) as well as the unshaking trust their supporters show them every day). They are often people that seem good, peaceful and warmhearted, as well as compassionate to others. They can adapt themselves quickly to the world around them and can create the feeling in others that they see them and will take care of them (like a mother – metaphorically in the sense of the Cancer AC), which in my opinion seems really fitting to their occupation.
In this part I touched onto a huge topic which I would like to extend a little further over the course of the next few blogposts of this category. I personally always find it fascinating all over again when I get to work with the charts of people who we all know, even if not personally, and am able to find similarities through the gift of astrology. Things that we would usually take for granted or luck can be analyzed, categorized and ultimately make us better astrologers.
As I have mentioned before, at the end of the day the chart doesn’t make any decisions for us. There are certainly thousands of people out there with a similar chart that did not end up being the pope, even though they might have had it in them. The most important part about psychological astrology is not forgetting about the person as a human first and foremost. Environment, family, chances, people who support us and who bring us down, the economy, accidents and so on... It is not always up to us, but maybe some people really just have that certain “spark” to them.
